NJ Pathways Project Highlight: Robotics & Automation
Center of Workforce Innovation for Data & Computer Science
We have all benefited from the rapid advances in robotics and automation technology in recent years, as these developments enable technical sectors to improve and develop new products and services. With the world becoming increasingly connected, staying on top of the latest technological trends is essential. Currently, training at the level needed to be competitive in the current job market is relegated to a 4-year degree and/or job training in a specific technology. However, targeted technical training in this area can be provided at various education and training entry points to allow for multiple opportunities for students and adult learners to engage.
The Robotics and Automation Pathway Project provides stakeholders with the opportunity to collaborate on advanced manufacturing and industrial automation initiatives across a spectrum of opportunities.
This Pathway Project established a certificate program in this emerging technology focused on integrating and implementing industrial automation and robotic systems as they relate to manufacturing and adjacent sectors. This certificate program will include courses within the mechanical, electrical, and general engineering disciplines to include instruction in AC/DC Circuits, PLC systems, hydraulics and pneumatics, electrical and mechanical measurements, blueprints, motors, drive types, computer-aided drafting (CAD), computer programming, and basic networking. Students will work with real-world industrial controls and robotic systems to understand what comprise complex systems, how these systems are designed and implemented, and acquire the skills necessary for basic maintenance.
The 19-credit Certificate of Achievement in Automation, Robotics, and Control is offered by the Department of Engineering Science / Engineering Technologies and will include the courses listed below.
Additionally, students who complete the certificate will receive the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) Associate-level certification, C-101 and C-102.
