NJ Pathways Happening: Empowering Future Scientists, High School Biotechnology BootCamp at Middlesex College

Middlesex College

This summer, Middlesex College hosted a High School Biotechnology BootCamp, offering students a unique opportunity to delve into the rapidly advancing field of biotechnology. Running from July 1 to August 8, 2024, the BootCamp provided an intensive, hands-on experience designed to ignite a passion for science among young learners.

The program was structured to run Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, allowing students to engage deeply with the subject matter while balancing their summer activities. Under the expert guidance of Professor Narayanan, students explored cutting-edge biotechnological techniques and concepts that are shaping the future of medicine, agriculture, and environmental science.

Participants gained practical experience in DNA analysis, genetic engineering, and molecular biology, working in state-of-the-art laboratories. They also had the chance to engage in discussions about the ethical implications of biotechnology, fostering critical thinking skills and a broader understanding of the field’s impact on society. Many participants expressed that the program not only enhanced their understanding of biotechnology but also inspired them to pursue further studies and careers in the field.

Middlesex College’s Biotechnology Bootcamp is a testament to the NJ Pathways to Career Opportunities Initiative and the institution’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists, providing high school students with the tools and inspiration they need to contribute to the future of science and technology.
