NJ Community Colleges plead for rethink of budget cuts
Lawmakers expressed concerns over cuts to higher education, focusing on the impact at community colleges, at budget hearings on Thursday.
Gov. Phil Murphy’s proposed budget includes $2.2 billion for higher education, including support for colleges and universities and financial aid for students. This represents a decrease of almost $96 million, or 4%, from the current fiscal year. The state’s 18 county colleges will see a 12.8% decrease if the budget is approved as is.
