National Apprenticeship Week In-Person and Virtual Events by New Jersey Community Colleges

November 5, 2021, Trenton, New Jersey – New Jersey’s Community Colleges will be hosting a variety of events (in-person and virtually) to mark National Apprenticeship Week (November 15-21), including panel discussions about apprenticeships, an announcement of a new program, career fairs, tours, open houses, and more.

“On-the-job training is a win-win for businesses and workers. Registered Apprenticeships through New Jersey Community Colleges are a proven way for people to earn a living while getting the training needed to advance themselves in a career. Apprenticeships help to strengthen the workforce and economy by meeting the needs of employers across diverse industries. Our Community Colleges are excited to highlight the benefits of our programs during National Apprenticeship Week,” said Dr. Aaron Fichtner, President of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC).

The U.S. Department of Labor’s National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) celebration offers leaders in business, education, and their partners a chance to express their support for Apprenticeships. NAW was established to celebrate the significant impact Registered Apprenticeship Programs have had in

re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities.

SCHEDULE FOR NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 

NOVEMBER 16: 

10:30 am – 12:00 pm 

Bergen Community College, “Earn While You Learn” Virtual Panel and Discussion

Panelists will introduce the concept of Apprenticeship, discuss employer benefits, share success stories, and talk about how Apprenticeships help the community with employment. Panel will consist of 2-3 apprentices and their mentors to discuss the rewards and challenges of their relationship, and how mentoring contributes to the success of the apprentice’s journey. If time permits, it will also include speakers to showcase emerging practices and new learning models that have been developed during this grant.

NOVEMBER 17:

The in-person Open House will include informative speakers and activities for students.

Rowan College of Burlington County Event at Tecomet, In-Person Presentation 

Tecomet, 7145 Colonial Lane, Pennsauken, NJ 08109 

Three employees with Tecomet, a manufacturing company in Pensauken, NJ, will be presented with Journeyperson Certificates from the United States Department of Labor.

Middlesex College, In-Person Open House 

2600 Woodbridge Avenue, Edison, NJ 08818 

An in-person Open House to learn about the Non-Credit Programs in Culinary, Business and Computer Science, Healthcare Professional Development for Teachers, Technology Creative Arts and Personal Enrichment, Camp, Child Care Retirement Strategies, Apprenticeships, Corporate Training Careers in the Trades, and English as a Second Language. Enjoy a culinary demonstration (and sample the food!) while you learn about the Continuing Education classes.

NOVEMBER 18:

Camden County College, In-Person Manufacturing Employer Tours and  

Apprenticeships Forum 

Taft Hall, Presentation Room, 200 College Drive, Blackwood, NJ 08012 

This in-person Forum is being held for manufacturing employers to learn about the benefits of participating in Apprenticeships, in addition to a tour of Camden County College’s CIM Center factory floor. Discussion topics will include: USDOL Registered Apprenticeships, Apprenticeship Grant Opportunities (online and in-person), and Camden County College’s Online Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programs (Machinist, Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, and Welding).

Bergen Community College Event at One Stop Center,  

In-Person Apprenticeship and Employer Hiring Event, 

One Stop Center, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652 

Bergen Community College will host six local employer partners for a hiring event. Invited employers are welcomed to recruit residents in the local community and throughout New Jersey.   Tables will be set up in one the building’s lobbies. The college will also have a table at the One Stop to promote Continuing Education Programs.

NJ Place 2.0 Dual Education Program.

The Virtual Apprenticeship Career Fair will begin with two healthcare employers talking about apprenticeship opportunities and their companies’ respective organizational cultures. Immediately following, two manufacturing employers will discuss similar opportunities in their organizations.
