NJ Pathways Alumni Spotlight: Jaydon Oliver’s Path to Success through Education and Opportunity

County College of Morris

Jaydon Oliver’s journey through County College of Morris (CCM) is a shining example of how workforce development initiatives can open doors to academic and career success. Through his active participation in several key programs, Jaydon gained the skills, experience, and connections needed to transfer to a prestigious four-year university, earn multiple scholarships, and secure a high-profile internship.

While enrolled at CCM, Jaydon took full advantage of the opportunities available to him, starting with his participation in the dual enrollment program with Morris County Vocational School District. He was also part of the pilot cohort for CCM’s Data Analytics Certificate, a program designed to provide students with practical data science skills. In addition to these programs, Jaydon was involved in the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) Data Science Pathway initiatives, which helped deepen his knowledge and passion for the field.

Jaydon graduated from CCM’s Academy for Computer and Information Sciences, where he received a comprehensive education in computer programming, internet technology, computer architecture, network security, and software engineering. This well-rounded background prepared him to pursue further education and set his sights on transferring to the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering, where he is majoring in Computer Engineering or Data Science.

His hard work and dedication have paid off in extraordinary ways. Jaydon is a recipient of the prestigious Gates Scholarship, which covers all of his expenses, including travel, while attending the University of Michigan. In addition, he was awarded the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which will allow him to intern with Amazon Web Services (AWS) during future summers, providing him with invaluable hands-on experience in the tech industry.

Jaydon’s success story highlights the power of the NJ Pathways to Career Opportunities projects in helping students like him achieve their academic and professional goals. His journey is proof that with the right support, determination, and opportunities, students can reach new heights in their education and career paths. We look forward to seeing all that Jaydon will accomplish as he continues his studies at the University of Michigan and beyond.
